Task Forces were set up under the National Drug Strategy 2001-2008 to provide a response to illicit drug use and underage drinking problems.

Description:

Task Forces were set up under the National Drug Strategy 2001-2008 to provide a response to illicit drug use and underage drinking problems. Task Forces have representatives from government agencies, local authorities, community and voluntary groups. The Task Force’s primary role is to co-ordinate responses to local needs. NWRDATF was set up in 2003 and covers Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim and North West Cavan.

The overall objective is "to significantly reduce the harm caused to individuals and society by the misuse of drug through concerted focus on supply reduction, prevention, treatment and research."

COVID-19 LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS

 Arising from the COVID-19 emergency, the following arrangements are in place for community and voluntary drug treatment and related services in NWRDATF Sligo, Leitrim until further notice. Services will continue to operate at their maximum capacity, except that provision has been adjusted to take account of the following:

  • Some buildings are completely closed to the public;
  • Planned group activities have been suspended;
  • Staffing rotas have been organised to minimise staff interaction thereby maximising service continuation in the event of a staff-related infection;
  • The main focus of provision is continued contact with existing service users;
