The North Leitrim Women’s Centre aims to provide a safe, friendly, welcoming and supportive environment for all women in our community to empower them to reach their full potential

Services & Supports provided by the Women’s Centre include:

Well Woman Clinic – Forth-nightly Well Woman Health Clinic provided by a Female GP providing services such as smear testing, breast exam, fertility & contraception advice and all areas relating to women’s health. By appointment only – service provided free to all medical card holders (funded by HSE West)

Affordable Counselling Service – an affordable counselling service for women, fees are charged on a sliding scale according to what clients can afford (from €40) – no one will be turned away if they cannot afford to pay. To make appointment contact the Women’s Centre

Programme of activities and training courses for women in the North Leitrim Area aimed at giving women an opportunity to meet other women, have some fun, learn or improve skills for work or just enjoyment

Drop in/Information and Signposting –  we are open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, women are welcome to drop into the Centre for a cup of tea and a chat to find out what’s happening in the Centre. We also have a computer suite that is free to use (when not in use for training purposes)

The Avalon Centre

The Avalon Centre is a vibrant and energetic charity organisation in the heart of Sligo town. The organisation provides a diverse range of programmes and services to meet the needs of the local and wider community both young and old. Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff ensure that the Avalon Centre is the leading choice for youth related activities in Sligo town while our social day centre affords members the opportunity to engage with their peers and participate in a range of social, physical and developmental activities.

Traumatic Bereavement Service HSE

This is a free, confidential, professional counselling and psychotherapy service. The Traumatic Bereavement Counselling/Therapy service provides counselling/therapy to individuals in cases of “complicated” grief i.e. bereavement by suicide, bereavement by death of a child, accidental and other “traumatic deaths”.

Sligo Community Training Centre

Community Training Centres (CTC) provide integrated education, training and work experience to young people aged between 16 and 21 years who have left school with incomplete or no formal qualifications. Centres have been set up with the needs of the early school leaver and the young unemployed person in mind with services delivered in a friendly and informal manner. They provide a fresh opportunity for young persons to attain nationally recognised certificates at their own pace and with the assistance of supportive staff.  Learners attend for a maximum period of two years and during this time, will participate in personal, social and vocational skills training leading to major awards on the National Framework of Qualifications. Certification may be obtained in the following areas: • QQI Level 3 Major Award 3M0935 Employability Skills • QQI Level 4 Major Award 4M2010 General Learning / Pathways to Employment • ECDL • Primary Certificate in Food Hygiene.

Big Brother Big Sister Programme

Big Brothers Big Sisters is an internationally recognised Youth Mentoring Programme that forms supportive friendships between young people aged  10 to 18 years and an adult volunteer. Together the volunteer and young person decide on the type of activities that they want to do.  Activities include: – Going for coffee, playing sport, arts and crafts, going to the cinema etc.  The young people benefit from developing a friendship with a caring adult outside of the family.  

National Learning Network

National Learning Network  (NLN) Centre in Sligo is based in Bridge Street, Sligo. The centre provides training funded by MSLETB and the HSE for persons out of work through accident, illness, or disability.  The service offers training opportunities to more than 100 people throughout the Sligo/ Leitrim region, who may have been finding it difficult to access further education, training and employment. The people who use NLN’s services need specialist supports for a range of reasons. We work with people who experience health conditions, illness, disability, mental health difficulty, trauma, addiction, economic isolation or challenging life circumstances. We support people to make successful transitions, whatever their stage in life. We can help with transition from school to the adult environment, with access to vocational training and education, with getting a job, recovery and wellness, improving people’s health, enhancing quality of life and achieving successful inclusion in the community

Saol Nua Social Group

Saol Nua is a Social Group for adults aged 18 years upwards with learning difficulties, anxiety disorders, mental health issues, depression and mood disorders based at Breffni Family Resource Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim.  A fun and varied programme of activities, workshops, trips and courses are organised throughout the year.

Eolas Informed

Eolas is a growing component of Mental Health Service Delivery HSE throughout Ireland. It is an 8 week programme  for Service Users aged 18 years and over with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder and their families/close friends. It is co-facilitated by Service Users & Family Members with Local Mental Health Professionals.   People with self experience, family members and clinicians work together to provide information and promote recovery.  Eolas consists of 2 parallel 8 week programmes, one group for Service Users and one for Family Members/Close friends.  These programmes are now available to attend in the Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan and South Donegal areas.  A referral can be made through a member of your local Mental Health Team or by contacting the Local Coordinator.

Personal Youth Development Programme

North Connaught Youth and Community Services are running a new programme for 16-25 year olds in Leitrim / West Cavan.

We offer a safe, friendly space where young people are listened to, respected and treated fairly.  Special interests / Indoor and outdoor activities – water sports, fishing, beauty, cookery.  Acts as an advocate for young people.  One to one mentoring and support.  Personal and social education.  Place to discuss issues in their lives, worries, fears, concerns.  Advice and information about health, debt, drugs, alcohol, housing.   Onsite and offsite support.

The programme is led by the needs to the young person and their personal input / interests.

The project is funded by the International Fund for Ireland and is supported by Leitrim Co. Council / Leitrim ETB.

Diversity Sligo

The mission of Diversity Sligo is to help and support asylum seekers and refugees in their inclusion into Irish society. Diversity Sligo delivers information, advice and advocacy to asylum seekers and refugees through weekly clinics in the accommodation centre.  We organise activities for men, women and children such as a book library, gardening, relaxation classes, Summer camps and trips. We participate in the organisation of celebrations for the end of Ramadan and for Christmas. We try to secure funding for these activities. We have also secured funding for the provision of bicycles for adults, sewing machines and a polytunnel. We work in close collaboration with Globe House management and other organisations involved with asylum seekers.
