Carrick-on-Shannon Education Centre

The core work of this service is education and training.  The main clients are teachers.  A small number of courses are also provided for parents and Special Needs Assistants (SNAs).

Mission statement:

  • Provide training, development and support for teachers and the wider school community, both in terms of meeting locally researched and identified teacher in-service programmes.
  • Act as far as possible as a resource and meeting centre for the local school community.
  • To facilitate the display of teachers and pupils’ work and to enable publishers to hold exhibitions of school textbooks and such.

Foroige’s Alcohol & Drug Education Project (FADE), Co. Leitrim

The F.A.D.E project (Foroige’s Alcohol & Drug Education Project) is managed by Foroige, National Youth Development Organisation and funded by the North West Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force. The project aims to support and develop the delivery of high quality Drugs Education programmes for Young People and Parents in order to promote the health and well being of young people in County Leitrim. The project works with all young people aged between 10 – 17 years in their community focusing on empowering young people to make positive and healthy life choices. The Project is universal for all young people aged 10-17 years in County Leitrim focusing on Primary and Secondary Prevention Programmes engaging in particular young people most at risk of misusing drugs.

Learning Disability and Autism Service, Sligo/Leitrim

This is a service for people with learning disability and autism in Sligo and Leitrim.  

A Community Nurse supports an adult with a learning disability to live as independently as possible in their own home and community. The Community Nurse ensures the person has access to appropriate services by liaising with relevant agencies and advocating on their behalf and on behalf of their families.

A Community Facilitator promotes healthy living and enables the person with an intellectual disability to make informed choices and decisions in the areas of healthy lifestyle based on relevant and current information, and helps to identify and plan for future needs.

The service provides:

North West STOP

North West STOP value and care for each person who seeks our services. Through our experience of working with self- harm and suicide we acknowledge the very difficult life events that can lead people to hurt themselves, or end their lives. Our purpose is to provide a safe, confidential place where you can safely talk about the loss, stress, confusion, conflicts and other pain in your life. Our style of counselling is to listen, support and perhaps help you with insight to either change what is possible to change or to live more contentedly and creatively with that which is not. We will act to intervene with appropriate support, commitment and compassion.  North West STOP will continue to lobby for regular funding for similar voluntary groups. We greatly acknowledge all the groups, individuals, clubs, organisations and agencies that consistently fund raise for North West STOP. SpunOut.ie

SpunOut.ie is an information provision website for 16-25 year olds. We provide information on a range of different topics broken down into sections; education, employment, health, life and opinion. Young people in our age range can also have their voices heard on the website by writing opinion pieces and giving feedback.

Sligo Youth Theatre

MISSION STATEMENT – Sligo Youth Theatre SYT engages with young people through the use of theatre/drama as a medium to facilitate their social and personal development, provide them with an outlet for artistic expression and explore issues of theatre production and performance.   SYT’s mission to produce quality youth theatre work is underpinned by three approaches or practices:                                                                                                                               1.    Theatre Practice driven by a commitment to artistic quality.  Fostering the development of technical and artistic skills, high production standards and exposure to the professional theatre environment.                                                                                                                             2.    Youth Work driven by a commitment to young people’s personal and social development having regard to issues of access, empowerment and participative practice.                                                            3.    To contribute to the cultural life and wider community of Sligo. 

We have weekly drama classes for young people aged 10 to 18 years. Each age group gets involved in one high standard production over the year. We also organise outings to see theatre shows.
